OLD BRIDGE — Route 9 remains closed as a result of an overnight crash in Middlesex County that took down six utility poles and brought wires down on the roadway

Old Bridge Police said a tractor-trailer jackknifed after a crash with two cars late Saturday night that led to the shutdown in both directions between Perrine and Ernston roads after a crash that brought down wires across the road.

Traffic was backed up coming off the Garden State Parkway onto Route 9 and being forced onto Ernston Road and Bordentown Aveue. Drivers on Route 34 have to get off at Poor Farm Road Along with traffic coming from Route 34.

"We're trying our best to divert traffic," said a dispatcher, adding that parking is available at the Park and Ride.

There were no serious injuries resulting from the crash according to police.

The closure is blocking access to several shopping areas including Home Depot, Walmart, Kohl's and several restaurants.

NJ Transit said bus routes 67 and 139 have 30-minute delays because of the closure.

Police could not estimate how long the closures would remain in place.
