Jenkinson’s Weekly Fireworks are Being Moved – Literally
Don't panic! Jenkinson's weekly fireworks on Thursday nights will go on as planned. Jenk's just has to move the display a little south...for a bird.
Pairs of American oystercatchers, an endangered bird nested eggs near Jenkinson's Aquarium in Pt. Pleasant Beach. Well, the birds have started hatching right near the where they set up the weekly fireworks display. Town officials have roped off this nesting area and moved the fireworks south.e black skimmers have just started to nest.
Jenkinson's Aquarium director Cindy Claus told NJ Advanced Media that it can take anywhere from three weeks to a little over a month for chicks to fly from the nest. She added that the Aquarium is working with the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife and Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ to protect the endangered birds.
Claus invites visitors to hit the beach. She called viewing the birds "a unique experience."
Please do not disrupt the roped off area near the nest, and only go near it when Aquarium officials are around.
