The Legendary Lanes at Sea Girt, NJ Closing Forever
A very big piece of Jersey Shore history will cease to exist later this spring.
The Lanes at Sea Girt will be closing its doors on May 17.
The bowling alley/music venue has been a popular destination for decades going all the way back to 'Highway 35 Lanes.'
If you grew up in the Wall Township/Sea Girt area, you most likely attended many bowling birthday parties at The Lanes.
As you grew older, maybe you were part of a bowling league or enjoyed your favorite local bands.
I spoke to Michael Conover, an employee at The Lanes at Sea Girt. He's been working there on and off for six years. Michael said he grew up at The Lanes. His father was a professional bowler in the early 90s. Michael, now 27, told me he spent most of his childhood at The Lanes at Sea Girt bonding with Dad.
Michael added that with the closure of the Circus Drive-In, The Lanes at Sea Girt has been one of the last attractions to stand the test of time.
As to why The Lanes at Sea Girt is calling it quits, Michael told me "the owner was made an offer he couldn't refuse."
There is a lot of speculation as to what will happen with The Lanes after it closes. The main consensus is that it will be knocked down for the development of retail space. Just what we need, right?
Most summer leagues are looking to move to nearby Shore Lanes in Neptune City. Ocean Lanes in Lakewood is another option being looked at.
Thanks to the staff of The Lanes at Sea Girt past and present for so many unforgettable moments that we will never forget.
