
Do Not Answer, NJ, NY and PA! Officials Warn Messages from these Numbers are Highly Dangerous
I don't know about you, but the number of spam calls and texts I've received lately has gotten out of hand.
It's gotten so bad, in fact, that I signed up for the Verizon call filter app. It works very well.

Scammers have become so sophisticated recently that you must be vigilant to avoid being taken advantage of.
It's not just scam phone calls anymore. Now, crooks are using text messaging.
I almost fell for one a few years ago. Almost.
I received a text from our CEO asking me to get a gift card for an important new client coming to the radio station.
As soon as they said "gift card," I should have been tipped off.
However, I have a good relationship with our CEO, and the text was persuasive. They even used his correct name.
I'm embarrassed to say that I was walking out the station's door, about to head to Walgreens, before I stopped and asked myself a few questions.
First, why is the CEO asking me to purchase a gift card?
Plenty of people with roles above me would be asked that task first.
I reached out to my CEO, telling him that someone was posing as him, and he told me lots of people all over the company were getting similar messages.

The key is to stop and consider if something seems suspicious before giving out information or making a purchase.
Ignore a message or let that call go to voicemail when in doubt.
Most people can spot scams a mile away, but as con artists become increasingly sophisticated, it's not always easy to tell, especially for older people.
A large amount of scams prey on the elderly.
