According to USA Today:

Families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend an average of $874.68 on clothing, shoes, electronics, and school supplies.

For the average New Jersey family, that's not cheap.

Imagine having four children attending school. That's a whopping $3,500 just for the beginning of the school year.

Parents of children attending public school in New Jersey don't have to worry about tuition. Kind of.

Many households more than make up for tuition with evergrowing taxes.

Then, some go the private school route. And in New Jersey, the tuition at these institutions can stop you in your tracks.

I won't debate whether private school is better than public school.

The idea that private schools are "better" than public schools can depend on individual circumstances and priorities.

Alot.com went nationwide, identifying the most expensive high schools in each state.

It should be no surprise that New Jersey's priciest school has one of the most significant price tags in the United States.

Look at the top three costliest high schools in The Garden State.

The Peddie School in Hightstown serves students in grades 9-12.

Founded in 1864, The Peddie School has a rich history in New Jersey.

Cost: $43,500 a year.

According to The Purnell School in Bedminster, it's an institution "for adolescent girls who would not find success at more traditional schools."

Purnell only has 80 students and 19 faculty, which makes the student-teacher ratio exceptional.

Cost: $44,570 a year.

Look at all of those big-name schools on those shirts.

The most expensive high school in New Jersey is The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville.
