News 12 is reporting that The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department has confirmed that 54-year-old Staci Dawn Fang was killed when the seaside condominium tower collapsed. According to News 12, it is believed Fang is from Monroe Township.
Pictured with Staci is her son Jonah who was injured, but survived.
There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Staci. The members of the Fang and Handler family would like to express our deepest appreciation for the outpouring of sympathy, compassion, and support we have received. The many heartfelt words of encouragement and love have served as a much-needed source of strength during this devastating time.
As of this writing, News 12 is reporting that there are still 159 people still missing, including a couple from Lakewood. Neighbors told News 12 New Jersey that Benny and Malki Weiss were visiting Malki’s father in the building when the collapse happened.
As for what caused the massive structure to crumble, investigations are still underway. Experts are speculating that "construction or engineering defects" could have played a part. Others say that Miami's coastal air may have eroded the steel of the building.
My thoughts and condolences go out to the families of those who have passed and that are still missing.
