Usually, when you think of summer at the Shore, the first thought that comes to mind is the beaches. Have you ever thought of the Great Lakes?

Take a break from the sand and surf and take advantage of the many great lakes we have in Jersey. One that comes to mind is the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell, which is the most visited site in the Monmouth County Park System. Grab your fishing gear, the lake is stocked with large and small mouth bass, tiger muskie, bullhead catfish and pan fish. You can also hike the trail, rent a kayak or a motorized rowboat. Save the rowing exercises for the gym! There is also a 45 minute guided tour where you will learn about turtles, egrets, herons, and ospreys.

There are other lakes in New Jersey like the Merrill Creek Reservoir, which offers a variety of environmental programs including the moonlight paddle tour. There is also the Round Valley Reservoir, which is a popular spot for fishing, boating as well as scuba and skin diving. NJMonthly.com has a complete list of the Great Lakes of New Jersey HERE.
