Think all the summer jobs at the shore are taken? Think again. Two major retail chains, anticipating a busy season, lead a cadre of local businesses seeking help at a job fair May 6 at the Acme Market shopping plaza on Route 35 in Ortley Beach.

Acme Market, which hosts the fair, and McDonald's, hope to hire 150 seasonal workers, from among applicants who arrive between 12 Noon and 3 PM.

According to Christine Karaska of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Acme is ready to hire immediately, offering $9.00 to $12.00 per hour, depending on the job description, with openings on shifts from 6 AM until 12 Midnight, plus some spots on the overnight crew. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

McDonald's will accept applicants as young as 15, and is especially looking to fill spots on the first and second shifts. Wages are commensurate with experience.

If you're really after a spot on the boardwalk, Christine recommends that you visit the job fair anyway, and make it a point to speak with her. She'll be toting her book that contains the full listing of seasonal jobs yet to be filled, including ride and game operators, customer service representatives, cooks, counter help, servers, security and more.

Be sure to bring two forms of identification, and as for dress, business casual or better is always recommended. The most important thing to wear is your winning smile - the one that customers will enjoy seeing all summer long.

For more information, e-mail Christine Karaska here, or reach her at 732-793-5060.

Good luck and happy job hunting!
