Passenger flees traffic stop because he thought he had warrants out for his arrest
He had two brake lights that didn't work and tinted front windows and that's what led to a driver being pulled over in Lakehurst, but his passenger had other issues around 11:41 pm on Tuesday in the area of Route 37 and Brown Avenue.
An on scene investigation led to a probable cause search of the vehicle and occupants.
The passenger in the 2008 Chevrolet Tyquan O. Warthen, 22, of Browns Mills found himself in trouble after police found open alcohol in the car.
That's not all, police say the man fled on foot across Route 70 and onto Lake Street after he initially gave officers a fake name and date of birth.
After a brief chase he was arrested on Cedar Street without incident.
Warthen said he ran because he thought there were warrants out for his arrest.
Police said there aren't any warrants out for his arrest.
The driver of the vehicle was issued three motor vehicle summonses for Maintenance of Lamps, Obstruction of View and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
Warthen was transported to Lakehurst Police Headquarters for processing and was processed and charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law and Resisting Arrest by Flight.
He was issued a warrant for the charges and transported to the Ocean County Jail where he was lodged pending a mandatory court appearance with the Ocean County Superior Court.
