
When Melting Snow Turns Into A Mess Inside Your New Jersey Home
As the snow piled on the roof, I was watching TV the day after the big snowstorm when I suddenly heard a drip... drip... drip.
When I looked over, I realized the ceiling was leaking.
The snow on the roof had melted just enough for water to seep through, dripping down into the foyer.

What a mess!
Winter weather can really take a toll on just about everything, especially your house.
As the buckets below filled up quickly, I realized I probably should have been a little more prepared, but how?

Tips For Homeowners: Managing Snow Melt On Roofs
During the winter months, it's common for any melted snow and ice to build up under the shingles, which could eventually leak into the attic and cause damage to the ceilings and walls.
The National Weather Service says that's why it's important before a storm to clear all leaves, sticks, and other debris from your home's gutters and downspouts to allow the melting roof snow to drain properly.
Simple Steps Can Protect Your Home From Winter Leaks
They also say you can stand on the ground and use a roof rack to pull any snow from the roof so it doesn't just sit there. Also, it's important to keep downspouts clear of snow and icicles.
Once this snow finally melts, I'll need to check and make sure the gutters are clear. I'll also be calling in an expert to see what's going on, so this hopefully doesn't happen again.
With how cold and snowy this winter has been, you just know there will be another storm eventually.
