We've all heard of some weird New Jersey laws like: It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.  But, this brand new law in Jersey surrounds a topic that doesn't come up often.

Refreshments at funeral homes.

Up until Friday, Jersey was one of the few states that prohibited the practice.

This new law will allow funeral homes to serve food and non-alcoholic beverages as long as "consumption" is away from preparation, storage, and display of the body. Ew. Food preparation on site is not allowed under the new legislation.

If there was ever a place where alcoholic beverages were necessary, don't you think this would be it? But I digress.

Sponsors of the new law told NorthJersey.com in a statement:

This is about community, comfort, and convenience. It’s about helping funeral homes in the State to expand their business and services to better provide for the families they serve.
