Many we're upset that Pt. Pleasant Beach didn't open the boardwalk and beach for Memorial Day weekend. This included protests in the town. Tuesday night, the Mayor gave a status update.

Pt. Pleasant Beach's Mayor, Chief of Police, Borough Administrator, and Head of Public Works have been working with business owners to plan an opening that made social distancing a priority.

After a final walkthrough on Tuesday, they determined that the proper measures were in place for a partial reopening starting this Friday. This will include the boardwalk and northern beaches.

Rides, games, and amusements will remain closed under Governor Murphy's State order. That means restaurants will be open for takeout only.

Hand sanitizing stations have been set up at every beach entry and signs will go up this week.

Because Pt. Pleasant Beach's opening will likely be an event, the parking restrictions at private and public lots will be "scaled back." All parking restrictions will be lifted on Friday, June 5.

Over at the inlet, the parking lot will be open for normal operation starting Wednesday May 27.

Whether you're walking the boardwalk, fishing, or taking part in other activities, all guests must maintain a 6-foot distance at all times. This will be strictly enforced.

Pt. Pleasant Beach boardwalk businesses have agreed to be "social distancing ambassadors" as they serve customers. We're all in this together.

Like other shore towns, the easing of restrictions is subject to change if guests do not practice safe social distancing.

In other words, it's up to us. If we want some kind of summer in Pt. Pleasant Beach, we've got to follow the rules.
