Rutgers Bans Fraternity and Sorority House Parties
The parties have have been cut short at Rutgers.
Effective today, the University has banned frat and sorority house parties for the rest of the spring semester due to "alcohol-related" issues.
"Rutgers takes seriously its commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe campus environment. In light of a number of alcohol-related incidents this year involving Greek organizations, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs has placed a moratorium through the end of the semester on parties in fraternity and sorority houses," said E.J. Miranda, a Rutgers spokesman.
Fraternities and sororities will be permitted to hold their year end "formals" and other events arranged at off-campus facilities where third-party vendors serve alcohol. The Rutgers University Dance Marathon will also go on, as planned, this weekend.
But all other fraternity and sorority parties must be cancelled or the Greek organizations could face disciplinary action from the Rutgers Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, or OFSA.
If I was attending Rutgers, I'd be livid right now. Part of the ridiculously high tuition that is paid is to get the "college experience."
