The Friendship Plaza on Route 9 in Howell was empty for quite some time. Since then Staples and Hobby Lobby have moved in, and now a major supermarket is set to open next year.

According to APP.com, Saker ShopRites Inc., the owner and operator of 29 supermarkets in central New Jersey, will open a new location next year in the vacant 70,000-square-foot space at the shopping center’s southern end once home to Kmart.

ShopRite also will expand into the 20,000-square-foot space that currently houses PetSmart, which will move into a 19,000-square-foot space next to Staples. In total, ShopRite will occupy 90,000 square feet.

I think this is great news! We can look forward to lots of new jobs and hopefully the new Shoprite will give that plaza some buzz again!
