Central Jersey Group IV

At Howell High School

(1) Freehold Twp. 2, (6) Manalapan 1 (OT)

Junior Hailey Santiago scored the golden goal 2:42 into overtime and the Patriots rallied to deny the Braves an upset and win their second consecutive sectional championship -- both by way of overtime.

Freehold Township trailed for most of the second half and finally tied the game in the 74th minute, when sophomore Gaby Parker settled a pass from Santiago and calmly tucked a shot into the far left corner of the goal for the equalizer with 6:49 showing on the clock.

In the third minute of overtime, junior Ainsley Moy drove the ball up the middle of the field and played a pass through toward Santiago, who timed up her run perfectly, ran it down and finished off the championship with a sliding finish.

Manalapan jumped in front on a finish by senior Vanessa Sarf in the 46th minute, which she knocked in after senior Daniella Butash served a long ball into the box. Freehold Township goalkeeper Ashley Moore came out and punched it in the air, but it stayed within the six-yard box and Sarf finished the play off with a deflected shot into the net.

Freehold Township dominated play over the next 25-plus minutes, but Braves freshman goalkeeper Leila Shaw made an array of saves to keep the Patriots off the board, including a leaping stab on a shot to the upper 90 by Moy in the 57th minute that she parried over the bar and off the football crossbar.

A year ago, Freehold Township won the Central Group IV championship by beating East Brunswick, 4-3, in overtime, with Cassidy Corcione scoring the tying goal in the 71st minute and Kayla Wong converting the golden goal.

The Patriots move on to face South Jersey Jersey Group IV champion Eastern Wednesday in the Group IV semifinal, with the Vikings playing host.

Central Jersey Group III

(3) Middletown South 3, (5) Brick Memorial 2 (OT)

Senior Makayla Jaffe scored two goals, including the golden goal during the 98th minute to give the Eagles a thrilling win over the Mustangs and capture the Central Jersey Group III championship.

Senior Abby Doherty served a free kick into the box and Jaffed one-timed a volley out of the air that cleared the goal-line, touched the net and clinched Middletown South its third sectional championship in the last six seasons.

Junior Mia Caruso came through with the equalizer for Brick Memorial in the 75th minute by crashing the goal and following up the rebound after a save by Middletown South goalkeeper Allie Greco that she parried up off the crossbar and back out in front of the net.

Jaffe gave Middletown South the initial lead on a goal off a pass from junior Jenn Schuster in the 35th minute.

Brick Memorial answered in the 56th minute with a goal by sophomore Brooke DeAlmeida off a corner kick.

Middletown South surged back in front in the 71st minute, when freshman Bea Tinoco carried the ball 40 yards and finished her 21st goal of the season.

Central Jersey Group II

(9) Wall 2, (6) Rumson-Fair Haven 0

Freshman Madison Miller scored to open the scoring and senior Kiersten Brown added one before halftime and the Crimson Knights held on to beat the Bulldogs to avenge a 2020 sectional championship loss to Rumson-Fair Haven.

Miller finished off a feed from junior Ellie Hartz in the 23rd minute and Brown tracked down a ball and finished for a 2-0 Wall lead in the 35th minute.

Central Jersey Group I

(4) Point Beach 10, (2) Highland Park 0

Freshman Baleigh Johnson led an onslaught with a hat trick and the Garnet Gulls routed the Owls to capture the Central Group I sectional championship.

Senior Naima Shortridge added a pair of goals and sophomore Izzy Kurzon contributed a goal and three assists, with all of Kurzon's production coming in the first half.

Point Beach stormed out to a 5-0 lead by halftime with five different players scoring a goal. Johnson opened the scoring, followed by goals by junior Audrey Akersten and sophomore Gabby Kirchner within a minute of one another to make it 3-0 in the 22nd minute.

Kurzon then buried her goal in the 28th minute and Shortridge scored her first goal in the 35th.

Freshman Sage Sakowicz scored her first varsity goal in the second half.

Friday, Nov. 4

Sectional Semifinals

South Jersey Non-Public A

(1) Red Bank Catholic 3, (4) Trinity Hall 0

Junior Mya King scored a goal in each had and senior Gianna Romeo contributed to all three Red Bank Catholic goals as the Caseys blanked the Monarchs to earn a home sectional final for the second straight season.

King opened the scoring off a feed from Romeo in the 20th minute and Romeo scored a goal of her own just 2:22 after King's icebreaker. King later capped the scoring in the 51st minute off another assist from Romeo.

Red Bank Catholic advances to Tuesday's sectional final and will host the winner of Saturday's match between No. 7 Paul VI and No. 3 Immaculata.
