Police in Surf City are investigating a string of vehicle burglaries that took place during the overnight hours this week.

The three vehicles that were stolen included a BMW SUV, a Dodge Durango, and an Audi convertible.

Two of the three cars were located within a few hours of being reported stolen.

Surf City Police were able to locate and recover the BMW SUV in town while the Dodge Durango was found by police in Newark.

The thefts and burglaries remain under investigation by Surf City Police as the search for the Audi convertible continues as well.

Police are asking homeowners along the 300 block or 400 block between N.1st Street- N. 4th Street, to check your smart doorbell and any security cameras that you have for suspicious activity that took place between the hours of 3:00 am-6:00 am.

Police said that all three vehicles stolen were left unlocked and the keys were accessible.

"Please take precautions to protect your property, your home, and yourselves. Lock your homes and vehicles whenever you leave; even if your vehicles are on your property, secure them! Do not leave valuables in your vehicle; if you can’t remove valuables, move them out of sight (i.e. in the trunk, under the seats, etc.)," Surf City Police said in a statement.
