You Could Start Getting Taxed For Tap Water At The JS
New Jersey is already one of the states with the highest tax rates so I am imagining a massive amount of scoffing and eye-rolling after reading that headline.
And understandably so but just stay with me....
According to NJ.com , NJ has very old pipelines that were built back in the 19th century and as a result are, "decaying and could pose a serious health risk and the issue is only getting worse."
"There is a big problem and it is a problem that affects your health, your kid's health and your grandchildren's health," said Bob Smith Middlesex's State Senator.
The idea being proposed is that 10 cents would be taxed per 1,000 gallons used which would cost each household, on average, about $32.00 a year.
For the state overall? This system would pull in a whopping $150 million annually which would all go towards replacing the aging pipelines.
"I think we can begin that public discussion and hopefully get a consensus that the public thinks it is the right thing to do," Smith said. "You can pay me now or you can pay me a lot more later."
So, as obnoxious as it sounds, what do you think?
