The Most Epic Chicken Sandwich In New Jersey, NYC and Philly Revealed
Sometimes you just need a hot, crispy, juicy, spicy chicken sandwich but when you're already in the mood for one, that is not the time to start researching the best bite. If you are hangry for a chicken sandwich, I got your back. These are the best chicken sandwich spots in New Jersey, New York and Philly. You’re welcome.
Jersey is known for its food and an epic chicken sandwich is no exception. In fact, for Jersey, I could not pick just one. These are the top two locations for the best chicken sandwich you can get.
This one may be a drive but it is more than a meal, it is an experience. The Highwood overlooks NYC in Weehawken and the buttermilk fried goodness you will experience here will make you blush. It’s got that crispy, thick-cut bacon coupled with crisp lettuce and their very own house-made pickles to bring that acidity. Of course, it is on a brioche bun and from this place, you would expect nothing less.
This one is a bit closer to home, if you are from South Jersey, you know Hoagitos. Their ingredients are high-end and this is not your grandma’s chicken sandwich. This gem has extra-sharp cheddar, hickory thick-cut bacon, arugula (or rocket as they say in Italy), pickled chili peppers and their own curated herb mayo. They are so good you get two. I also cannot deny the power to the Caesar shown here. I'm going to do you a favor and let you experience this one for yourself.
Let’s say you are in New York City, I don’t want to leave you hanging. There are too many great options but Sweet Chick has some serious street cred. There is a standard of house-made herb mayo across almost all chicken sandwiches but this concoction is some of the best. They do a sweet pickle which I know is polarizing but here it works really well with their potato bun.
Maybe you are on the southside and Philly is calling, you’ve got no shortage of options there either but I recommend trying Love & Honey Fried Chicken. They so something that makes all the difference in my humble opinion. They drizzle hot chili oil all over this sandwich (extra if it is my sandwich) then they pile up the deep-fried, crispy chicken and buttermilk ranch slaw which gives that nice creamy offset to the hot pepper oil. They also use sweet pickles and they top it with more ranch. Can you hear the angels singing too?
