According to professionals, the Jersey Shore has a "tick explosion" headed our way this Summer.

This means that we are all at a greater risk of getting Lyme Disease.

So here are a few tips on how to keep you and your family safe this Summer.

1. Wear the right clothes.

The more skin you cover the better, especially if you are going camping in the middle of the woods. I know its not the most desired attire in the middle of the Summer but better safe rather than sorry.

2. Bug Sprays

Using bug repellant is your next line of defense and experts say to look for products that contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. You can take it a step further and spray your clothes with bug spray after you wash them which will stay on your clothes for a few weeks.

3. Tick Checks

No one is saying don't go outdoors and have fun. If you do, however, make sure you check your body for black spots that could be confused as a freckle.

4. Ticks Are Everywhere

Just because you are not in the middle of the woods does not mean that your guard should be lowered by any means. Ticks will lurk in cities, parks or even backyards so always take the necessary steps to protect yourself.
