Popular grocery store Trader Joe's has announced a recall of bags of pistachios that may be contaminated with salmonella.

In a statement on it's website, the company said it was alerted by a supplier that certain lots of in-shell, roasted pistachios may have been contaminated.

The packages include 16-ounce plastic bags that have been distributed to Trader Joe's stores throughout the nation.

"Out an abundance of caution, all lots of our Dry Roasted & Unsalted Pistachios, Roasted & Salted Pistachios, and 50 percent Less Salt Roasted & Salted Pistachios have been removed from store shelves and their sale has been suspended while the issue is investigated," Trader Joe's said in a statement on its website.

The nuts that may have been affected have "best if used by" date codes ranging from Oct. 27, 2016 to Nov. 4, 2016. The code information is stamped on the bottom of the plastic bags along the bottom of the package.

The company said if anyone has purchased pistachios stamped with these dated "please do not eat them. We urge you to discard the product or return it to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund."

The following UPC codes, according to Trader Joe's may be among the batches that are contaminated:

  • Trader Joe’s Dry Roasted & Unsalted Pistachios (UPC 0007 9990)
  • Trader Joe’s Dry Roasted & Salted Pistachios (UPC 0007 9983)
  • Trader Joe’s 50% Less Salt Roasted & Salted Pistachios (UP

The company said that so far, no customers have reported getting sick as a result of eating the tainted pistachios.
