Two Monmouth County men tied to 100 vehicle burglaries have been arrested
If you had your vehicle stolen between April and June in Monmouth County, police may have just found the culprits.
New Jersey State Police announced the arrests of Mario Mondragon, 21, of Long Branch and Genaro Guzman, 21, of Shrewsbury on Tuesday for allegedly committing two armed robberies and nearly 100 vehicle burglaries across five Monmouth County municipalities.
During a five-month investigation, State Police detectives with the Troop “C” Criminal Investigation Office said they worked with Eatontown Police, Tinton Falls Police, Ocean Township Police and Long Branch Police which led to them identifying Mondragon and Guzman as the suspects in armed robberies that occurred in Shrewsbury and Eatontown.
It was on Saturday, May 16, that police said Mondragon and Guzman were burglarizing a vehicle at a Shrewsbury residence and were confronted by the homeowners.
Mondragon and Guzman are then accused of brandishing a handgun and taser before fleeing the home.
On Saturday, June 6, in Eatontown, they sprayed a deliveryman with pepper spray and physically assaulted him during a robbery.
Investigators were able to find enough evidence at the crime scenes to tie Mondragon and Guzman to an additional 100 vehicle burglaries in Monmouth County.
Detectives from the Troop “C” CIO, State Police Fugitive Unit, K9 Unit, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Task Force located and arrested both men this past week in their hometowns.
Mondragon and Guzman are charged with armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon – handgun without permit, unlawful possession of a weapon – other weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose – firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose – other weapon, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, burglary, and theft.
They were lodged at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute pending a bail detention hearing.
