I'll be away on vacation next week...and while normally the thought of vacation is relaxing, I'm totally STRESSED about it.

Turns out I'm not the only one.

We can feel so compelled to stay at work because of the economy...aside from the fact that smartphones mean being connected to work 24/7.

According to a recent survey, 27% of respondents said they felt MORE stressed after a vacation, with 41% saying they check in with their office at least every other day.

I fully intend to set one of those 'out-of-office' e-mail alerts while I'm away, but I KNOW I'm still going to wind up checking my phone every so often just out of habit.

What I notice is that I'm doing twice as much work this week in preparation for my week away. Contrary to what you might think, my work day does not end when I get off the air at 3 p.m.

I'm usually here until 5 p.m. everyday, sometimes later. In that time I'm doing production work, making commercials, doing on-air promos, and various other jobs.

Forget preparing for my vacation, I have to do all of next week's work on top of this week's stuff!

I'm also nervous that I'll forget to do something before I go. Then what?

I don't even have much in the way of stuff I can do when I'm away from the office. I can't even imagine what it's like for people who CAN do work with their phones.

It's nerve-wracking. I'm already exhausted.
