I had membership at the former Tilton Fitness Center on Route 9 in Manahawkin and I miss this location to work out in Southern Ocean County. For years this was a thriving fitness center and rehabilitation location in Stafford Township. I could be wrong, but it seems the pandemic was the final nail in this gym's future as people slowed down on going out and working out.

This facility was a total fitness center. Not only weights and fitness machines but also an Olympic size indoor pool, hot tubs, sauna, yoga classrooms, handball, and more. It was truly a full-service fitness center and now it sits empty along Route 9 in Manahawkin. My wife and I had membership there for years and now th question is, what is next for this location?

Do we see a new fitness corporation move in and revive this gym or do we see bulldozers and a whole new approach to this location? If you live in Southern Ocean County, what would you like to see at this site? Did you have a membership at the Tilton Fitness Center? or could you care less about a full-service gymnasium?

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
