French Toast Hot Toddy – Cocktail of the Week
When the weather gets cold, you need SOMETHING to warm you up, and this will definitely do it!
A hot toddy is generally made with some combination of whiskey, boiling water, sugar, and spices.
When I make them, I usually use hot black tea, Irish whiskey, honey, lemon, and if I have one, a cinnamon stick. This is a simple variation on that basic recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz maple bourbon* (like the kind by Knob Creek)
- 1 cup fresh, hot black tea
- 1 tsp. maple syrup/sugar (optional)
- 1/8 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 cinnamon stick, to garnish
- fresh nutmeg, to garnish (optional)
- orange peel, to garnish (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a mug and sip to your heart's content.
*if you can't find the maple bourbon, you can use regular bourbon with 1/2 Tbls. pure maple syrup.
Switch it up:
Use more or less maple syrup or sugar to suit your tastes.
Add a little Fireball (cinnamon whiskey) for extra cinnamon flavor.
Rim the mug with the orange peel for more citrus flavor.
Try a flavored tea!
Here's to staying warm!
*Please drink responsibly.*
