Every year the boys and I take a two hour road trip to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Here are some of the reasons why:

We love the town of Willow Street in Lancaster County, and we stay at the Willow Valley Hotel/Doubletree family resort. It's a beautiful country setting with a lake, creek, giant weeping willow trees, a covered bridge, and rolling farmland. The boys love the four pools most of all, but they also have carriage rides, bonfires, outdoor movies, a fabulous buffet, and so much more.

The Strasburg Railroad, along with the Train Museum of Pa., offer hours of family fun. The classic steam trains run all day with trips through the Amish countryside. You can even get off the train and stop for a picnic, and spend hours at Cherry Crest Adventure farm, where you can get lost (literally...for hours) in a corn maze, pick up baby chicks, and many more activities too numerous to mention. Good country fun.
Inside the giant museum and train yard are retired locomotives (some of which you can climb into) as well as miles of wooden train tracks for the kids to play with, and so much more. It's history brought to its life-sized glory.
My children have been coming here since they were born, and there is something to be said for the tradition of returning year after year to a place that warms our hearts.
