How to Chop an Onion Without Crying
It happens every time. I swear I won't let the burning in my eyes cause tears. But I fail every time, and as the tears roll down my face and the burning pain kicks in, I promise myself I will find a better way! Here are some helpful tips from Point listeners who called in this morning.
-- Wear swimming goggles
-- Put a silver spoon in your mouth
-- Stand under the overhead oven/microwave fan-vent while chopping
-- Put a piece of bread in your mouth. Don't eat it..just bite down and it will act like a shield
-- Light a candle
-- Chew mint gum
-- Peel and prep the onion, then put it in the fridge overnight before chopping (I always keep my onions cold in the fridge but that doesn't help me at all.)
-- Go to Wegman's or another store that sells pre-chopped onions and don't do the chopping yourself. Lol.
