A year ago, neighbors came together to help neighbors in need after Sandy and last night's Light Up New Jersey event showed that the strength of the residents of New Jersey and their commitment to help their neighbors hasn't weakened.

As a matter of fact, as I spoke to Jersey Shore residents who attended last night, I realized their commitment to their neighbors, friends and neighborhoods is stronger than ever.

I don't think anyone thought that we would be 100% back in just a year, but I also don't think we all realized the incredible challenges that would be thrown in front of us after the storm was long gone.

Those challenges weren't (and aren't) easy, but it is so amazing to see that they haven't dampened our spirits or weakened our Jersey pride. So many of you gravitated to the Light Up New Jersey because you wanted to let people who are still hurting know that you are there for them. And they did it by lighting up the skies of New Jersey last night.

I've never been prouder of the people who call the Jersey Shore home. Amazing people, amazing place, and we're lucky to call it home.
