Sandy Hook's first drowning this year claims the life of a Middlesex County high school senior. The 17-year old victim was standing in shallow water on an unguarded beach with relatives Tuesday night when a wave struck and swept him away. Lifeguards pulled his body out about 30 minutes later when it washed ashore. The rip current risk has been high this week because of Hurricane Cristobal.

The sound of lifeguards' whistles is becoming very familiar as more than 100 people needed to be rescued at the Jersey Shore this week from treacherous rip tides caused by Hurricane Cristobal. The incidents were reported in Asbury Park, Belmar, and Seaside.

The search for Aaron Sofer is over. Sources close to the situation in Israel say the 23-year old student's body has been found in the woods near Jerusalem where he disappeared almost a week ago. Forensic testing will determine the cause and manner of death.

The condition of the only survivor of a 3 car accident in Freehold last week that left 3 people dead, has improved. Authorities say the unidentified Freehold man has been upgraded to critical, but stable. Police are seeking a man who broke into a school in Brick and stole $50 and school supplies. Police say a staff member at St. Dominic's school encountered a man wandering the halls on Monday. Police say he was captured on surveillance video later that evening using what appeared to be a set of keys to open the front door of the school. He went to the main office before leaving the building.

An accident on the Parkway in Aberdeen overnight Wednesday killed construction worker and injured another when police say an SUV crossed through a coned barrier. A 47-year old man died, a 60-year old man suffered moderate injuries, and the driver, a 21-year old, also was injured. All were from North Jersey.
