Mayor Steve Acropolis says starting this Saturday, residents will be allowed to use the beach from 8th Avenue south to the border of Toms River at 6th Avenue. However, an emergency declaration keeps beaches north of 8th Avenue closed to the border of Brick Beach III.

In a written statement Acropolis says "Our professionals have been monitoring the hazards, from coastal conditions to the potential for debris and we are confident that this section of Normandy Beach can be safely enjoyed as long as residents remain cautious."

Township Police Chief Nils Bergquist says dune fencing and clear signage will be posted to help residents avoid hazards. "The dunes are unsafe and completely off limits, except at the 8th Avenue access point."

All of Brick Township's public beaches remain open.
