Shore Teens Test Business Smarts: Consumer Bowl Regionals Next Week

High school students statewide are about to match their wits to see who has the marketplace smarts and understands New Jersey’s consumer protection laws. The New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl Regionals take place next week.

Freehold Township High School is back, defending its state title and representing Monmouth County. Ocean County’s entry is Monsignor Donovan High School in toms river.

The game-show format designed by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs brings a show-biz element to a critical examination of consumer rights and responsibilities.

Students are expected to know about Ponzi schemes, investment fraud, car leasing and buying, health club regulations, retail consumer rights and related topics.

Only 19 of the 90 teams that entered in January have survived to reach the regionals.

Joining Freehold Township and Monsignor Donovan April 18th at the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Freehold are Linden, North Brunswick, Somerville, Voorhees and West Windsor-Plainsboro High Schools.

The South Jersey match-ups take place April 17th at Burlington County College’s Pemberton campus. Moorestown Friends High faces Glassboro, Oakcrest, Ocean City and Winslow Township High Schools.
