On May 5th, you can make a real difference in the lives of people with disabilities or special needs. It's the Easter Seals "Walk With Me and 5K Run"! It takes place at MetLife Stadium, and hundreds of families are expected to attend.
Comedian and actor Jeff Norris stopped into the show this morning to talk about a very cool event coming up on June 23rd to benefit the Molly Marie Angel Fund at Brick Veterinary Hospital that will help pay for procedures for people who may not be able afford them.
When the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties asked me to fill in for my good friend Big Joe Henry as master of ceremonies for their Humanitarian Gala, May 4th at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale, I was thrilled. I know how committed Joe is to that great organization, and I am as well.
Firefighters putting out fire in Long Branch's West End area (photo Ilya Hemlin Townsquare Media NJ)
As reported by 94.3 The Point, a massive 5 alarm fire ripped through the West End section of Long Branch on Monday. Residents and fire fighters say this is the worst fire the township has had since the pier fire…which occurred in 1987. Thankfully there were no casualties, but the fire took down a dance studio where the blaze started, an apartment complex that housed 12 and another building. A local and legendary restaurant has stepped up in a big way to aid the Long Branch residents that were left homeless and the businesses that were hurt.
We all have our daily struggles. I'll be the first one to admit I often don't stop and take time to appreciate how lucky I am. Ultimately the outcome of your life depends on how you deal with your struggles. Do you sitback and do nothing, or do you do what Sally Kalksma of Pine Beach is doing...staying positive, active and climbing The Empire State Building?
The Ashley Lauren Foundation provides hope and help for New Jersey children and their families when facing pediatric cancer. As you know, I have been truly moved by the work this great group does, and now I have been moved by the generosity of so many of you at the Inaugural Buttefly Ball this past Saturday night at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch.
It's that time of year...good feelings and generosity! Nothing makes me feel better during the holiday season than being able to give a little to those in need, but according to a Digital Journal report, some people are being amazingly generous. Apparently, in those Salvation Army red kettles, officials have found donations of gold coins, silver dollars, and in Shawnee, Kansas, a solitary diamond!
