Ever have one of those nights where, no matter what you try, you just can't get any sleep?

If you listened to our morning show yesterday, you know that I only had three hours of sleep the night before.

I went to sleep at ten pm (later than I should have because of a stressful homework situation one of my boys was having) and then woke up at 1 am and could NOT fall back to sleep for the rest of the night.

My first GIANT mistake was looking at the clock to see what time it was. That just led to the stress of knowing that if I couldn't fall back to sleep, I'd be getting up at 3:30 am for work and have to face the day on three hours of sleep.

So I tried getting out of bed and grabbing a sip of water, then rearranging the blankets and pillows, climbing back in bed, and trying to fall back to sleep.

That didn't work.

So I thought I'd try to just close my eyes, take some deep breaths, and think happy thoughts. Oh boy. That was a disaster. Instead, everything in life that is stressing me out came rushing into my brain and then I started to get too upset to even THINK about falling asleep.

That's when I got out of bed, grabbed my pillows and blanket, and headed for the couch. I figured maybe a change of scenery would help.

I waited...and waited...and...nothing. No sleep for me : (

By 2:30 am I started thinking maybe I should just get up an hour early and get in the shower...but I stubbornly clung to the thought that I was at least lying down with my eyes closed and that had to count for some kind of rest, right?

Needless to say I was cranky all day, had no time to take a nap, and then fell asleep easily last night, but do you have any advice for how the heck to fall asleep when the odds are against you? If so, please share!
