There is incredible excitement about great restaurants and gorgeous new hotels in Asbury Park, and it's all happening in the shadows of a hotels that's seen it all in Asbury Park, the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel.

Of course, this amazing building, which has stood tall for nearly a century, has an amazing history, and there might just be a few things about this storied place that you may not know.

Here are a few fun facts about the building that is now the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel.

The structure was designed by New York's Whitney Warren. He also worked on the Biltmore Hotel and Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

During World War II, it was a receiving station for the British Royal Navy. Some 5000 British officers and enlisted men were stationed in Asbury Park including legendary actor Sir Alec Guinness (Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars, 1977) .

In February of 2007, the the 248 room hotel was purchased for $16 million.

So, there you go, a little background info on a legendary building that overlooks one of the most amazing beaches and boardwalks around, and has been the Summer 2019 backdrop for so many of us.
