Monmouth County Tournament

Semifinals

(3) Middletown South 2, (10) Red Bank Catholic 0 (9 Innings)

Joe Stanzione blasted a game-winning, two-run homer on a 3-0 count in the bottom of the ninth and the Eagles walked off with dramatic win over the Caseys to secure a spot in the Monmouth County Tournament championship game.

Junior Ben Schild pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings before handing the ball over to winning pitcher Evan Wood following a 107-pitch outing. Schild started the winning rally with a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth, although he did not have to do much after reaching first base thanks to his teammate.

Stanzione got the green light on 3-0 and crushed a fastball over the leftfield wall for his Shore-Conference-leading eighth home run of the season.

Red Bank Catholic starter Alex Stanyek struck out Stanzione in a big spot in the bottom of the sixth. Stanzione stood in with the go-ahead run on third base -- the only runner of the game for either team to make it that far and just the second to get beyond first base -- and Stanyek froze him with a fastball on the outside corner for his 13th strikeout of his six-inning outing.

Class B South

Barnegat 3, Jackson Liberty 0

Senior P.J. Craig pitched a four-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and one walk and blasted a tiebreaking solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to carry the Bengals past the Lions and to a share of the Class B South championship for the second straight season.

Craig needed exactly 110 pitches to polish off his career outing and the Rider University commit came through at the plate in the bottom of the fourth with his third home run of the year to break the scoreless deadlock.

Barnegat added a run each in the fifth and sixth innings, with senior Ryan Kulpa plating a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and senior Jared Schworn scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth.
