Class A North

Manalapan 21, Long Branch 0 (5 Innings)

Seniors Aidan Timbleson and A.J. Tanico combined on a five-inning no-hitter and the Braves (2-5, 2-3) rolled to a win over the Green Wave (0-8, 0-7).

Tumbleson struck out six during three perfect innings and Tanico kept the combined perfect game intact until he walked three batters with two out in the fifth.

Junior Cristian Bernardini led the offense by going 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI, senior Max Graime was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI and Christian Vento was 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI in the win.

Middletown North 8, Marlboro 6

Senior Mike Weinbel hit a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the fifth and freshman Zach Hampton followed with a go-ahead RBI single later in the inning as the Lions (4-3, 4-3) fought back from a 4-2 deficit to upend the Mustangs (2-6, 1-6).

Middletown North made it a six-run inning with a two-run double by sophomore Jason Quardt and an RBI single by junior Colby McMahon to score him and make it 8-4.

Senior Shawn McNiff cut Marlboro's deficit in half with a two-run home run with none out in the top of the sixth, but Weinbel came on to retire all six batters he faced to nail down the save.

Senior Karl Strauch (103 pitches) worked the first five-plus innings to earn the win for Middletown North, with senior right-hander Tyler Villa swallowing the loss for Marlboro with 4 2/3 innings of work on 97 pitches.

Junior Danny Talarico also went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Marlboro, which has lost six straight since starting the season 2-0.

No. 2 Howell 10, No. 9 Freehold Twp. 4 (11 Innings)

A Freehold Township error broke a 4-4 stalemate in the top of the 11th and senior Thomas Strauch blew the game open with a grand slam later in the inning to deliver the Rebels a win over the Patriots -- their eighth straight to start the season.

Freehold Township rallied to tie the game with a run each in the sixth and seventh innings, including a two-out, RBI single by sophomore Ryan Costello to tie it at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Ryan Keegan ignited the rally with a two-out walk and a steal of second base before scoring on the Costello single.

Junior Evan Kwortnik came through with a game-winning, two-run single lown the leftfield line with one out in the bottom of the seventh and the Mariners rallied to top the Jaguars in their final at-bat.

Junior Ty Kazanowsky started the winning rally with a one-out single -- the first of three straight singles, with winning pitcher Brenden Lavallee and senior Kevin McVicar each following with a hit to load the bases for Kwortnik.

St. John Vianney senior left-hander Nick Ferraioli (104 pitches) pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts, but fell victim to four errors and a lack of run support against Freehold Boro junior right-hander Aiden Denham as the Colonials (2-5, 2-4) clawed past the Lancers (4-2-1, 4-2-1) despite being no-hit.

Denham pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings with three hits and a walk allowed over 111 pitches and also punched out 10 SJV batters. Sophomore Shane Conover came on to record the final out.

Anthony Longo went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI and junior Mason Hospital was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to pace the Red Raiders (3-4) to a win over Perth Amboy Tech (2-4).

Senior D.J. Thomson tossed 5 1/3 innings of relief following Longo, who recorded two outs in the first inning before leaving the mound. Thomson allowed two unearned runs on one hit and four walks while striking out four on 71 pitches.
