Class A South

No. 8 Jackson Memorial 5, Brick Memorial 0

Junior Matt Koblos connected on a two-out grand slam to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning and senior left-hander Zach Crotchfelt finished off a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts to seal a Jaguars win over the Mustangs and clinch a share of the Class A South championship for the fourth straight season.

Brick Memorial junior right-hander Brady Leach pitched five no-hit innings before being lifted at 91 pitches. Jackson Memorial immediately went to work, with senior J.R. Osmond leading off the sixth with a single to left and both junior Aidan O'Donnell and Crotchfelt following with singles to load the bases with one out.

After Brick Memorial reliever Ryan Mulcahey induced a shallow flyout to centerfield for the first out, Koblos took the first pitch for a ball and clobbered the second one just over the fence in left to break the tie in grand fashion.

Senior Tommy Kendrick made it back-to-back home runs with a long solo blast to left, extending the Jackson Memorial lead to 5-0.

Crotchfelt came up just shy of a no-hitter in his own right, allowing a third-inning single to sophomore Nico Maribo on a 0-2 changeup when he was one strike away from striking out the side on nine consecutive pitches.
