The Attorney General’s Shooting Response Task Force is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place late last night on 7th Avenue in Asbury Park.

One civilian sustained fatal injuries.

Asbury Park Police told ABC 7 Eyewitness News they were called to the Asbury Inn on a report of an emotionally disturbed person.

One of the officers involved in the shooting was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing and the AG's office has not released any additional information including what led to the shooting and what unlawful act the deceased suspect is accused of committing.

The AG's office is running point on the Asbury Park shooting investigation pursuant to the law enacted in January 2019, Senate Bill 1036, which requires that the Attorney General’s Office conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.
