Any grill-master will tell you that weather doesn't matter, grilling season is all year, all you need is family, friends and food.

It's even better when you combine all those things together.

Allaire Community Farm in Wall Township is doing just that by inviting Military Veterans from across New Jersey and even beyond to come together and celebrate food, the weather and above all -- each others company.

Rick Young, who is the President of the Board of Directors of Allaire Community Farm and a Combat Vietnam War Veteran where he also served as an M.P. and afterwards for the FBI, said they've been running events for a couple years now for military veterans but they wanted to put this special event together where they can bring their families with them.

"One of the things that we hear from veterans is that there's a number of programs available to them but the families are not necessarily included and they wanted to be able to share the experience with other veterans," Young tells Townsquare Media News. "So, at Allaire Community Farm, we decided that we would put together a Veterans appreciation fall family barbecue night."

The food coming your way that afternoon/evening will be veteran cooked and sponsored.

"A Veteran owned business, it's G.I. Smoke BBQ company, will be there (and) the food will be free and the company has been sponsored by the 'Arms 2 Artisans' (which) is a Veterans support non-profit which helps veterans transition from the military into civilian employment," Young said.

It's a free event for veterans and their families on October 7 from 4:30 to 7:30 pm that will include more than just food.

"We will have hayrides for both the adults and the children, there will be arts and crafts for the children, the petting zoo will be available and for a very small fee, $2.00, you can purchase a bag of food and actually feed the animals in the petting zoo which usually is a lot of fun for the kids," Young said.

The animals you'll be able to feed/see at the petting zoo include goats, guinea hens and other assorted animals.

There will also be horses and cows (and Lily the pig) on site but they are for looking, not for petting or feeding.

Young said that there's no need to sign-up for the barbecue event, you just have to show up but also be sure to bring your military identification.

"We hope to provide a good time for all of the veterans who attend," Young said.
