Beloved New Jersey Pizza Spot Suddenly Closes, Leaving Locals Heartbroken
Why are Jersey pizza and sandwich spots so special? Maybe it’s the water. Maybe it’s the attitude. Or perhaps it’s that pizza and sandwich shops here are built on decades of pride, tradition, and family recipes that never needed changing. You can walk into just about any small-town pizzeria or sub shop and instantly smell the difference.

These spots aren’t just restaurants. They’re neighborhood landmarks. The kind of place you can walk into where the owner probably knows your name, and they already have your usual order memorized before you walk in.
What Makes Jersey Pizza So Good
I think New Jersey pizza doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. You get a thin, foldable crust that’s crispy at the edge but soft in the middle, with just enough char from the oven. The sauce leans tangy instead of sweet, and the cheese melts perfectly without turning greasy. Most legit shops still make their dough and sauce from scratch every morning, using the same recipes their parents or grandparents used.
It’s not about trends or toppings. It’s about balance, tradition, and that first bite that somehow always tastes like home.
The Sub and Cheesesteak Scene
Then there are the sandwiches. From Italian subs piled with meats to the cheesesteak, New Jersey nails it every time. You must admit the rolls are key. They must be fresh and crusty on the outside, soft inside. Cheesesteaks in particular have their own fan base here, and while Philly might get the fame, Jersey spots hold their own with juicy steak, melty cheese, and perfectly grilled peppers and onions.
A Classic Jersey Shore Pizza and Sub Shop Closes Its Doors
Since 1971, Vinnie’s Pizza and Subs has been a part of people’s lives in Wall Township. Locals loved the vibe, the portions that could feed two people, and the way everything was made with real care. Whether it was a quick lunch break stop or a Friday night pizza run, Vinnie’s had that rare mix of flavor, warmth, and familiarity that made it unforgettable.

In 2021, Nicolangelo "Nick" Parascandolo Ladonea, the owner of Vinnie's passed away unexpectedly. Nick was a pillar of the community and universally adored by the community. His family moved forward and carried on the family traditions. Sadly, the cost of running a business in 2025 just became too much.
Thank you to the staff of Vinnie's in Wall for all the great memories, slices, and cheesesteaks. The family's Belmar location remains open.
