Facebook was not happy to hear about a local favorite closing up shop.

According to Marc Levine in the 'If From Freehold You Remember' Facebook page, Szechuan Star Chinese Restaurant on Route 9 and Elton Adelphia Rd. in Freehold Township has closed.

You never know how a simple restaurant will connect with a community, and this one certainly did. Here are some of the comments on Facebook:

Trena Parks So sorry to see them leave...they were like family to my family!

Lee-Ann Nastasi Yes found out a week or so ago!! Very disappointed, enjoyed many lunches and dinners over MANY YEARS!!! GOOD LUCK!!

Lynn Serencko Mound A lot of good memories eating there!

Patti Lenker Potis Ugh, we got take out from them all the time, their food was great :'(

Jan Surgent Pinto Sorry to see it go. My family has always had a post Holiday dinner there in January for the past 10 years. Besides my husband and I frequently went there for lunches during the year. Food was always delicious and the service very good. I will miss seeing Jeff the owner. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

The good news is, upon reading more comments, it appears the owners of Szechuan Star have retired and new owners are taking over. There is no word on when the restaurant will reopen.
