Here's How To Check Your Ballot Status In New Jersey

Election day for the 2020 Presidential Election has passed so in a way, the worst is over.

But I must give all New Jersey residents a round of applause because the number of votes submitted using mail-in ballots in 2020 has surpassed the TOTAL number of New Jersey voters for the 2016 Presidential Election.

But now that a lot of people have mailed in their ballot and we are awaiting the results, everyone is asking how to check if your vote was actually received and counted.

Well luckily, there is a ballot tracking tool that has been made available but just be aware that this website was built to be transparent with voters.

It won't exactly let you know if your ballot has been "accepted" or "denied."

“We built the ballot tracker to have some visibility on the back end for a voter’s own record. It’s not meant to instantly confirm your vote,” said Alicia D’Alessandro, spokeswoman with the State Division of Elections.

The good news is that if your ballot is rejected due to a signature issue, you will be contacted via phone or email within 24 hours. You would have been sent another voter form to sign and verify your identify.

If there is any other issue with your ballot -- ie it is not sealed -- then you by law are not guaranteed another opportunity to fix it.

Experts predict that updates won't be taking place until November 18th but that is just an estimation to keep an eye on the website.

Some counties -- which includes Monmouth County -- won't be updated until after all the votes have been counted.

“The amount of time it takes until updates post to the Track My Ballot tool may vary from county to county,” it now says. “Please check back periodically for updates to your ballot status.”

So long story short, you won't exactly know if your vote was accepted or denied for some time and if your ballot was rejected, you won't know why unless you reach out to your county office to ask.

“Voters should have confidence that if they completed their ballot correctly, it will be counted, even if it doesn’t show up right away on the tracker,” she said.

I know it is a lot of waiting involved with this election and that is something we are not used to. But this is the first time -- as far as I know -- where a majority of the votes for a Presidential Election have been cast through the mail.

There are going to be bumps in the road....just be patient.

But for now, do your best to stay on top of these resources until the election results are revealed.
