Beachwood Police are asking for your help in identifying a man who tried stealing a vehicle on Pacific Avenue Monday, with the driver still in her seat.

In fact, the driver still being in the vehicle is what prevented it from being stolen, police explained.

The driver told police that she had just returned home and was sitting inside the vehicle for a few minutes, when an unknown man opened up the passenger door and was startled when he noticed someone else was still in the car, so he ran off.

Police said they arrived around 12:15 am Monday to the home along the 1200 block of Pacific Avenue.

They searched the area near the home for the suspect, but he was nowhere to be found.

Detectives are now investigating this attempted motor vehicle burglary and are asking anyone who lives in this neighborhood to take a look at their security cameras for anything that happened late Sunday into early Monday that could help them locate the man allegedly responsible for the attempted burglary.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with dark colored eyes, short dark hair, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to contact Detective David Bowden at 732-286-6000 extension 108.
