So you think the intersection is a nightmare now? Just wait.

There is just a handful of Wawas without gas stations at the Jersey Shore. The growing trend has been when a new Wawa is built, it comes with gas stations.

One of the "old school" Wawas is on the corner of Lanes Mill and Burnt Tavern Roads in Brick. There's rarely a time when the intersection isn't busy, and it's about to get a lot busier. The Brick Township Board of Adjustment has approved a plan that will tear down the existing store to build a larger Wawa with gas pumps.

My first thought was "how and where the heck are they going to fit it? According to the Asbury Park Press, the new Wawa will be almost 5,000 square-feet and will have 12 fuel pumps. They added that it will be built on the space next to Wawa that used to be a Chinese restaurant and pizza joint.

Residents are not thrilled about this plan. Judith and Joseph Gass live across Burnt Tavern Road from the side of the Wawa property. They told Brick Patch that the new configuration of the Parkway has made traffic difficult enough. They added that the new Wawa will attract more children to the dangerous insection, especially from Bernie Cook Park.

Across the street, Shell is not happy either.

While the plan for the new Wawa has been approved, it will likely be a bit before we see any activity due to the various objections from different parties.
