It was a mob scene five years ago when 'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro opened Carlo's Bake Shop in Red Bank. The sugar high is over, however, as Carlo's has closed for good.

As first reported by Redbankgreen, the store wasn't open for business yesterday, and a small sign regarding the closure appeared in the window early Wednesday.

A "new investor" in the business told Redbankgreen as recently as four months ago that there were no plans for the bakery to close.

NJ Advanced Media spoke to Nicole Valdes, spokeswoman for the company to find out why the shop closed.

The lease of the Red Bank location ended, and the company chose not to renew it as owner and TV star Buddy Valastro works to bring different types of retail locations to the Garden State.

Valdes went on to say that the "Cake Boss" is looking to create a different dining and bakery experience and that the existing Red Bank location couldn't host the new concept.

Buddy Valastro apparently has one of these concept locations operating in Texas.

Carlo's Bakery is still open at five different locations in New Jersey. There are also shops in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida, Nevada, Minnesota, California, Georgia and Texas.
