Are McDonald's Happy Meals about to get less...happy?

That all depends on who you ask.

McDonald's tried out a pilot program last year that swapped out the traditional cheap plastic toy that every kid loves for...a book.

I'm all for improving and increasing literacy, but it's a HAPPY meal. Know what makes kids happy? Crappy toys!

The five-week promotion will hand out non-fiction books from DK Books' Amazing World series.

The catch? It's only happening in Britain. For now.

I'm not sure how I would feel about that happening here...I like the idea of giving out books, but we all know most kids wouldn't think of a book as a prize, and would feel like they missed out on something...then again, maybe that would help out the obesity epidemic by keeping them away from the not-food known as the Happy Meal.

(On that note: When I was a kid, I enjoyed the occasional gray lump known as the Chicken McNugget...and who can resist those fries? It was a rare treat. Healthy, no? Did I like it? Yes. And I don't think it was all that detrimental to my long-term health and well-being, but I digress.)

If we could get kids to think of books as fun though? Well that seems like a good deal to me.
