As December descends upon us, we decided to take a look back at the weather records for this month to determine some of the coldest December days the Garden State has ever experienced.
These temperatures will make you feel lucky about the weather we've had so far this season.
We used the data from the Office of the New Jersey State Climatologist, and we wanted to share the cold, hard facts with you.
The Coldest December Day In New Jersey History
It makes sense to head as far north in New Jersey as we can, so we checked the data from the Sussex weather station: the coldest December day on record was -13°F on December 28, 1950.

Freehold's lowest December reading in history happened on December 21, 1942, and December 30, 1933. On those days, the temperature dropped to -5°F.
And in the southern part of the state, the coldest December day reported at the Cape May weather station was -2°F, and that happened on December 30, 1917.
The Warmest New Jersey December Days on Record
On the other hand, there have been some warmer days on record as well. Cape May's warmest December day was on the 7th in 1998, when it soared to 76°F.

In Freehold, December, several days reached 73°F, including December 5, 1998, and December 14, 2015.
