Your next opportunity to dispose of unwanted and unused firearms comes to Stafford Township next weekend.

Police are hosting a "Gun Take Back" event alongside the Ocean County Prosecutors Office on Saturday October 20 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Stafford PD Headquarters at 260 East Bay Avenue in Manahawkin.

All firearms must be turned in unloaded and in safe condition.

Complete background checks will be completed on all weapons during processing and anyone turning in firearms will also need to have proper identification.

Police say this program is not an amnesty program or a buy back program, but more to assist residents with firearms they wish to dispose of like ones they've inherited from deceased relatives or no longer wish to own.

Residents participating are asked to park on the east side (Town Hall side) of the municipal building where they will see signs directing them where to proceed.
