An Egg Harbor Township man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a police officer on the 4th of July.

59-year-old Rene DeJesus has been charged with disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault following the incident at the Tilton Terrace Mobile Park at around 9 PM.

According to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, "Sergeant Keeping arrived on location and located an involved party; [DeJesus], shouting and acting disorderly in the middle of the street."

DeJesus immediately threatened Sgt. Keeping and then assaulted him by punching him. DeJesus then retrieved an ornamental rock and metal bird feeder to use as a weapon against Sgt. Keeping. DeJesus then ran back into his residence, retrieved his pit bull, to which they both ran toward Sgt. Keeping. The dog seemed friendly however DeJesus once again tried assaulting Sgt. Keeping.

Sgt. Keeping eventually took DeJesus into custody with the help of two other officers.

DeJesus was lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
