Elsie's husband came up with the concept of making a sub with pickle slices instead of bread. They resurrected an old family pickle recipe to bring the idea to life. The dynamic duo would sell sandwiches at pop-up events and sell out instantly. It was then that they realized that they could open their very own pickle sandwich shop. The rest is history.
What is a pickle sandwich? Check this out.
Get your favorite deli meats with lettuce, tomato, onions, and the works inside a giant 7-inch pickle. Whether you're trying to cut carbs or just love pickles, this is the sub for you.
If you're just pining for a pickle that's cool too. Elsie's serves pickles solo or with special dippers like the Nach Problem Dippers. That would be Dorito and jalapeno whipped cream cheese and Elsie's OG Dill Spears.
They will even wrap your favorites meats in cucumbers or bell peppers for a super healthy option.
Elsie's slogan is Peace. Love. Pickles. And that is just what the Jersey Shore needs. The new location will be at 131 First Ave. in Atlantic Highlands. According to the Asbury Park Press, the new owners have been coming to Atlantic Highlands for over 30 years and felt that the "lovely and historic" town would be the perfect spot.
There's no word on a grand opening but watch this space. Oh, by the way, Elsie's is looking into other franchising opportunities. Check out what the pickle sandwich phenomenon is all about at their official site.
