Alex Reizner, managing partner of Aspen Real Estate told David P. Willis, the man on the pulse of "What's Going There" with the Asbury Park Press that within a year the mall will have a new facade, new roof, and plenty of new tenants. Reizner also added that the parking lot will get a much-needed upgrade with new lines and lighting.

Food chain Aldi will continue its expansion in Monmouth County with a new store slated for Freehold Mall.

According to APP,  about 70% of Freehold Mall is currently leased. Current tenants include Burlington, Freehold Music Store, Route 9 Farmers Market, and Firestone Complete Auto Care. All of these businesses are expected to remain. This upgrade is probably a long time coming for them. They deserve it for hanging on to a location that has had its issues over the years.

AutoZone has made an agreement to open a location at Freehold Mall. Look for the auto retailer to set up next to Terrace Bagels.

The developer did leave us in suspense when telling the Asbury Park Press:

an unnamed big-box tenant will fit right into the neighborhood.

What could it be? What do you want it to be? Let me know. Matt@943thepoint.com.

By this time next year the beat-up Freehold Mall is expected "to look brand new and beautiful."
